A Day in the Life of Brisbane (taken from our free newsletter)
Davina Schepman and Kerry Gill-Shaw - Move 2 Brisbane

The first rays of the dazzling sunshine break their way through the few high-rise buildings of the CBD (that’s ‘Brisbanese’ for centre of town) and slowly but surely the sun brings the city to life with the fingers of its rays touching the glorious mountains that protect the beauty of Brisbane.

North, east, south and west the city and its surroundings come to life. Unlike many major metropolises Brisbane has been blessed by the design and planning of forward thinkers and it has laid itself over the landscape like a silky sheet.

Trains, buses, cars and bikeways form the arteries that transport workers from their spacious living environments into the heart of the city for a day’s work, and people clamour to get into lifts, not because they are driven by their bosses but because they all want to sit and gaze at the splendour that is their city.

When the drive for sustenance arrives the hardest choice is what to enjoy for today’s lunch for the easiest of choices is the fact that lunch is for outside be it on the banks of the river, or the lovely man-made beaches of Southbank or the continental hustle and bustle of the Queen Street Mall. A multitude of restaurants all boasting different flavours from around the world are at the disposal of the life’s blood of Brisbane, its people.

As everyone gathers themselves to return to work there is no lull to activity within the city hub. People are discussing what to do with their afternoon after the 9 to 5 is finished. Are they going to the stadium to watch their teams do them proud, be it the Bulls, the Reds, the Bronco’s, the Lions or even the Roar, and of course the ability to enjoy a quiet drink during the game as the city supports its supporters by providing free transport to and from the games.

Is it to the beach, with the difficult decision being which one, with glorious beaches to the sunny Sunshine coast to the North or the golden sand of the Gold Coast to the South of the city of Brisbane, or perhaps to the top of Mount Nebo to light up the bbq and watch the sun set on the glorious site that is Brisbane and ponder what lies ahead tomorrow in the city of sunshine, the city of Brisbane.
